  • Epigones [Epigonii]

    When I watch the golden ages of the dear Romanian writings
    I am sinking in an ocean of sweet dreams and pleasant tidings
    And around me seem to wander lovely springs that give me shivers
    Or I see the nights are stretching above me dark starry seas,

    Over the tops the bright moon sails,
    The forest rustles its green leaves
    And from among the alder trees

    At night, bluish, calm, in the hearth burns the fire;
    From one side of a red couch I watch it and think
    Till my mind goes to rest, till my eyes start to wink;

  • Poet [Poet]

    In bad rhymes when you are sinking,

    Sleep well, good night!

  • Descent of the waters [Coborârea apelor]

    The aged mountains and the stately timbers
    Give birth to cold springs, which flow down the valleys
    Learning the ocean language in their sallies
    And in the lonely woods are gushing singers.

  • At the window facing seaward [În fereastra despre mare]

    At the window facing seaward
    Stands the princess, young and fair,
    And the sea floor, and the sea floor
    Steals her face and her blonde hair.

  • Go to sleep [Dormi]

    When I'm around, why are you fearful, why?
    I let the rain to gently come to thee,
    I let the wind among the trees to sigh –
    Keep calm and quiet! Now you are with me.

  • How could you... [Cum ai putut...]

    How could you scorn me all the time
    And laugh at what we had,
    At what I thought it was sublime
    When we were feeling glad?
