Go to sleep [Dormi] - Mihai Eminescu

When I'm around, why are you fearful, why?
I let the rain to gently come to thee,
I let the wind among the trees to sigh –
Keep calm and quiet! Now you are with me.

Why don't you sleep and look down to the floor?
You seem amazed, you seem to wait a call,
Your eyes can't see through it, nor through the door,
Or maybe you want something to recall?

Lie on the pillows, I shall let you be,
Sleep peacefully and let me stay awake.
I'll read, but now and then my eyes are free
To watch you when I take a restful break.

And when you sleep, I'll take a closer look
To see you breathing through the mouth, my dear,
Then I shall take my hand off the old book,
While peace will make my sad thoughts disappear.

My jewel... You are beautiful and true,
Like snow white marble is your lovely face,
I feel like running desperately to you
And while asleep to melt in my embrace.

But you wake up! Too bad! Go back to sleep –
Lay down your head upon your arm again,
From time to time at your sweet face I peep,
Because I give up reading now and then.

I'm glad, but all the hours of the night
Are throbbing in the clock and slowly creep,
Why are you scared? With me you are all right.
Now, sleep, or I shall force you...Go to sleep!
