When memories... [Când amintirile...] - Mihai Eminescu

When memories, this heavy load,
Try to ignite my fire,
I walk along the well known road
And feel the old desire.

Above your house, the same stars rise
Even today, with passion,
Which lit up my expressive eyes
And stirred my sweet compassion.

Over the trees so full of grace,
The moon seems to be swaying,
It saw our hot and tight embrace
And heard what we were saying.

For our loving hearts were set
To swear their faith was holy,
When on the trails, lilacs would let
Their flowers to fall slowly.

How did this longing die away
How in the night departed,
When all the springs, full of dismay,
Still cry that we have parted,

And when the moon, which we hold dear,
Arises every evening,
And when your eyes, so big and clear
Are sweet and full of meaning?
