Calling [Chemare] - George Topîrceanu

It's in vain that you are tempted by the life's dream, which is fleeting!
Can't you see that in the meaning of the handshake, of the greeting,
Shivers sweetly the abundance of a well preserved great treasure
Made of wishes, which the eyesight cannot hide and cannot measure?

From the desert of your silence, thrilled and taken by surprise,
You have frozen for a moment staring deep into my eyes,
But an alien idea has now hindered your bold soaring –
And your timid lips just couldn't answer promptly to the calling...

Have you lost the lovely garnish of your pure and maiden soul
Do you tremble at the thought that you cannot be in control?
Can't you see that without warning the night's darkness seized you tight,
When upon your sky the sunlight of the morning is still bright –
And that all your cherished wishes have been washed down to the sea?
O, I know, my dear, your story, as if it belonged to me.

He was destined to be your man – but he is so far away
From your heart and from your clear soul, every night and every day!
How a brilliant idea could make way into his mind
To caress your youthful body, to be gentle, to be kind?...
Stand up now and listen closely in the morning of your life
The young song, which calls you gently to live on, your years be rife,
Somewhere a nice soul is waiting to caress you and to say
That the moon still holds its secret and will shine above your way!
Come, get out of that deep shadow where your maiden flower dies,
Let the sun to heat your pure heart and to make you feel the vibes,
Give me now your eyes that long for many loves new and bizarre
And I'll kiss you with much passion, like you've never felt so far!
I have not high-priced adornments, I am not a mighty king,
I have only this big treasure: I can love and I can sing!
