Spring engagement [Logodnă de primăvară] - Magda Isanos

Why can't I drink the beauty of this day
with you, my love, why Fate has closed its eyes,
why can't we feel beneath our feet the clay
where grows the grass of life, as the deep sighs
have grown within me since I've been alone?
I want the sun to forge a ring of light
and join our fingers, which at once will glow;
to see horizons in your blue eyes bright
and feel how love in silence starts to grow
from strong old roots, which make the garden live
(once more, because in winter it was dead),
to bear our faults, each other to forgive
that we loved more than we have ever said.
