Nightmare - Ileana Mălăncioiu - Ileana Mălăncioiu

The city square was filled up with the dead
They crowded out the street, walking asunder
Dressed in their finest clothes, as a reminder
That we, the quick, don ordinary thread.

They passed us laughing loudly - no reserve
As if they didn't understand one bit
That they were quite a crowd, and didn't fit
Along with us, the living, losing nerve.

We were all frightened by such strange, fantastic script
And stunned, we stopped to witness this perplexing show,
For all of us had someone in the street below
And wouldn't want to leave them locked inside a crypt.
