The years have passed [Trecut-au anii] - Mihai Eminescu

The years have passed like clouds above the plains
And they will never ever come again,
Today I'm heedless, so I hear in vain
The stories, riddles, ballads and refrains,

Which gratified my pure and childish face,
With their deep meanings hard to understand –
Today, in vain your shadows you expand
O, secret hour, evening full of grace.

To snatch a sound from the romantic past
To make you, soul, to tremble once again
I play the lyre, but I've lost the spark;

Now all is gone, for young age doesn't last
And that sweet mouth in silence will remain,
Time grows behind me and I'm... getting dark!
